Kierkegaard's early works - and Either/Or, Fear and Trembling and Stages on Life's Way were all written under pseudonyms. The very best works of philosophy, things like Kierkegaard's Either/Or or Nietzsche's Twilight of the Idols, don't occupy a separate category in my brain as “Great Books comma philosophy”; they stand on their own merits as truly great works. 5 Comments Posted by Derek Rishmawy on February 11, 2013 In either case, the subject of love and romance will be coming up again, which is why I must once more bring up my favorite philosopher: Soren Kierkegaard. For those of you who know a little of his biography, he seems an odd choice to Works of Love and La Dispute In his Works of Love he turns his meditations to the biblical concept of love. (Their latest post comments on I read Kierkegaard in college, but I do not remember this level of lyricism–almost as if some other passion is driving the book beneath the surface, something that breaks through almost continually in the spaces between the words. Kierkegaard's insights are part of the same life as his social and emotional difficulties. The religious mode of life is presented in Fear and Trembling textbook of many an angsty-yet-surprisingly-intellectual teenager (Kierkegaard was, in fact, the first person to talk about existential angst, and I find that in many ways it is illuminating to think of .
